Default Replacing headlamp/wiper switch

My interior lights disappeared when I tried to adjust it, and I think I have to replace the switch, is it any way to do that without dismantling the whole dash-front? I`ve tried reaching it from the underside without any luck....and `while I`m at it...I might as well replace the washer-switch, it makes strange sounds...

So...can you help me....anyone?

Thanks Morten

Yours may be different than my '70, but I was able to change mine out recently, by dropping the steering column down about 2 inches, pulling the speedo/tach cluster out about 3 inches, and swapping the switch out from the left side. (How's that for a run-on sentence!?)

Hi Morton, I am not hardly qualified to give ANY advice about a 'Vette, but I did just successfully change my headlight switch for the same reason in my '79. I was following a Haynes manual, planning to remove the instrument cluster when I ran into a snag, I couldn't get enough of my hand in there to unhook the speedometer cable, so I just had it sitting in there kind of loose. Ended up loosening the dash on the left end just enough to BARELY get at it, got it changed but it was a real bear to get the plug on and off, and you have to be real careful to not mix-up the vacuum lines. If any of you real 'Vette people can tell me anything about unhooking that speedo cable I would sure appreciate it, now my speedo knocks a little at 20-30mph, I am guessing the cable needs greased.

You can take out the 2 side screws and the 3 upper screws on the driver side lower pad. Then grab the upper left corner of the lower left pad with your hands and pull out. Be careful not to break anything, but it will come out far enough to undo the wires, hoses, and get it out and a new one in. No need to drop columns and all that in my experience. I know everyone is probably horrified at this, but I have done it successfully more than once.

Thanks for the hints..
I guess the wintertime helps me to get it right in time.

No horror. Remove the side screws and the instrument panel to dash screws and you should be able to open up a big enough space to pull the headlight switch out the side.
