Post your tips on how to get more power AND use LESS gas. The idea here is to enjoy your c3 MORE and contribute LESS to oil company profits!
I never thought of the price of gas as a consideration to my enjoyment. I don't enjoy the excessive prices but it's irrelevant to the enjoyment. It' s not my dd. Over the course of the year and mileage used, the price of gas is significantly less than the up keep.
Gas price is irrelevant to the joy from driving the C3 Vette. Save the money on the energy efficient light bulbs and appliances and enjoy your hobbies!

how about
DONT ABUSE YOUR C3 BY FEEDING IT TOO MUCH GAS
Gas can wash the cyl walls and wear it out faster.
Better?

It looks like most people don't care that they can still enjoy driving their vette as well as enjoying the car hobby by learning how to properly tune their car and save money on gas.
I am guessing that the two wire O2 sensors are for the wideband, and the one wire sensor is for the cheap (non wideband) ones. If you always want it at 14.7 to 1 why would you need the wideband?
Can the O2 bungs be put on the exhaust pipes between the collector flange and the X pipe? I am planning my exhaust mods...
why did a new then 1976 get 13 mpg? i took off the exhaust and put on duals, and it went up to 17.6. And it made more power.
so tell me why they made it the way they did?
Would this mod help that car? How could it? It had a stock 4 hole manifold. it got 17.6. That is good.
This topic is about a c3 that once got 17, was modded, and now gets 9-12. what went wrong? Sure the owner has a job and can afford it. But, he is dumping gas down the sewer for no reason.
I guess you read my post wrong. I wasn't bashing the thread, indeed I wish I could do this to my Edelbrock 1903. I get terrible gas mileage on premium gas and the vette is my DD. I'd love to fix it, just don't know how.

Don't abuse your c3 by feeding it too much gas. If it gets 9-12 mpg it is likely washing the oil off the cyl walls and causing rapid ring wear.
after more study here is what i think is happening:
1. stock carbs were designed for a 4 hole dual plane.
2. 2 hole aftermarket dual planes cause a massive internal leak that wastes gas with no benefit and less engine life. it makes less off-idle torque as a result.
3. guys are all hyped up about the new manifold and don't notice less tq, and don't bother to check the mpg.
4. big spenders brag how they don't care if their car wastes gas, as they light a cigar with a $100 bill.
So if u care,
make or buy a 4 hole plate to fix the leak. on my holley 4165 a plate with no epoxy cuts the leak by 60%.
Honestly, I put in my TPI type setup on the original freshened up L48 engine and about doubled my fuel economy, muncie and 336 rear spun the tach to 4 grand at 75-80 something....
got 24 mpg.....
down here, I switched to a roller 355 engine with aluminum heads, and overdrive autos....as ten years ago, there were not a huge selection of parts to choose from....mpg suffered a bit, got only 20 or so on freeway.....around town/mixed bag it's only ~16-18 or so....
wish I had stayed with the original/rebuilt/mild cam engine....
wish I knew/or were available, those wide band O2 sensors too, they would have been my choice.....

So the update from your study is forget the epoxy and just put a 4 hole plate under the carb and you will get better gas milage and more torque.Whats the drawback to doing this?HP loss?RPM loss?
This is providing the divider in the intake comes all the way to the top of manifold? Correct?

drawback is when u die your heirs get more money.
the reality is there was sound engineering that is being ignored by manifold makers because guys don't care about mpg or off-idle torque, so why should they supply a plate?
epoxy is still available, but most are not going to do that much work. so at least restore the torque and mpg that was designed in the 1st place. There isn't any downside to fixing a leak. Carbs vary so i don't know how big anyones leak is, other than the 4165 at ~60%

Maybe if some guys see the plate provide a noticable difference in milage they will be interested in going further and using the epoxy.I paid $3.21 for 87 octane today.
I have the NGK Iridium Spark Plugs (permanently gapped at 0.039) and royal purple in mine. JEGS lists both these items as fuel savers and power boosters. I’ve got a Pertronix Kit, which probably helps as well. I’m doing a carb rebuild tomorrow, which will also help. My tires are brand new and properly inflated as well. I have a Performer RPM intake manifold which is supposed to help with fuel atomization. Does anybody know if those Tornado things do anything? Also, I’d also like to learn more about those wideband O2 sensors. How do you use it in conjunction with a carburetor? PM if you want. I might want to do that.
so i looked in my '93 Edelbrock catalog,
figuring they must know about this.
sure enough they sell 4 hole spacers
"to aid in dampening reversion effects"
[doesn't say what the effects are ]
and
"to enhance low rpm torque/throttle response"
>Performer divided wall 1/2" spacer #8715.
that's if u have room.
otherwise a 1/16" plate will do. make it yourself with a hole saw.
Just by keeping the car properly tuned, air filter clean and the tires properly inflated, you save several MPG. I know most or all of us in here keep our Vette's running this well, it's the general public that need's to heed.
I know several honda dudes who gets horrible gas miles. These folks know nothing about cars and maintains the car poorly.
Just by driving a honda does not mean that you are the gasoline saving guru.
