Default Wheel Question

I haven't posted in a long time, busy at work and building the 383, will post some pics of the 383 progress soon.
I have decided to go with the Torq-Thrust II Wheels on my 80. Yes I know some don't like the TTII's on the early 80 vetts, but I think they look great on the early 80s vetts.
After doing some searching on the forum I like the look of the 17x8 with 4" BS some I elected to use. Question: is the 17x8 with 4" BS the widest I can go with out modification or offset trailing arms? And what is a good tire size with these size wheels?

I just put 17 x 8 Torq Thrust II's with 255/45/17 Fuzion ZRi tires on my 82, and am going to go wider on the rear. This is what I got from another member, when I asked about the rears:

The wheels are 18X10 with a 5.5 backspace. They fit on the stock trailing arms I just had to relocate the ebrake bracket. I run a 275 40 18 rear tire with no rubbing.

That was me. I went to the 18" in the rear because the 17 inch 275 40 17 was to small in diameter. The 275 40 18 is about 26.6 diameter. I am running a 255 45 17 in the front on a 17X8 with a 4 inch backspace.

Do you have any pics of your car with the wheels on?

I have a 1980 with 17"x8" TTII's. I've got Bridgestone Potenza RE750 255/50-17's on all 4 corners. I've got pix. Nice car...

Would definetly like to see some pics! Do you have a pic of the rear so I could see how wide they are.

Click the link to My Corvette Photos under my avatar. The 255/50-17 tires are an exact replacement dimension-wise for the semi-stock 255/60-15's that were an optional tire for the 1980. There is a shot down the side of the car...

Are the TTII's 17x8 w/ 4"bs close to the stock wheel width?

I believe the stock wheel size is 15"x8" with the same offset and backspacing as the TTII, so yes, the TTII's would be the same width as the stock wheel - 8".

That would be awesome if I could see in person the width of the tire.
My goal is to get a little wider then stock on the back without modifying/buying offset trailing arms. Reading thru the archives I believe that I can go 17x9.5 with 5.5" bs on the back without offset trailing arms. I will use 17x8 with 4" bs on the front.

do you guys think these would fit on a 78??

the back rim has a sick offset that i like alot.. what would i need to do to fit that rim on the vette? off set trailing arms? or would the wheels stick out the fenders?? not a bad thing either since im planning on flaring the thing anyway...

Well I ordered the TTII's this morning with Tom's Wheels! I order just the front two 17x8 w 4"bs and use one of the 17x8's to measure how wide I can go (if any) in the rear. I would like to get a set 17x9.5 for the back. Will see!
