It looks like I might be pulling my motor out this winter. While it is out I am thinking about converting the car to a 5 Speed Manual tranny. Has anyone used the Keisler Conversion kit? What do you think of it?
I haven't done it myself, but I know people who have...they all love it! The last person I know to have done it, and just recently, installed it in a '66 coupe and can't rave enough about the difference in cruising ability.

You will love the transmission. It gives the car a whole different feeling when you drive it. Makes it a great cruiser. I have had mine for a while now and have to say that the OD is a welcome addition and it is one of my favorite mods to my car. Several people on here have done the swap.
It's a great mod, but isn't there a Tremec that's a grand cheaper for the exact same ratios? Since I'm on a budget, I might just but a $300 T-5 out of a 90's Camaro in...

Tremec TKO's start at $1895 or $1975 by themselves. What we sell is a complete conversion kit with a modified shift postion to fit properly into your car.
There have been a few that have converted a t5 on a low horse motor, but no one has an exact kit.

Going that route you'll need to do some creative work to get the linkage right, the driveshaft will need shortening, and there are a few other things that need attention before you slap it in and drive off.
I have instructions for putting a T5WC from a Mustang into a 'vette, but it's not my instruction manual, nor have I done it yet.

The completeness and facory look of the installed kit is what brought me to this one in particular. I am tight on time and this car has been a disaster to date, I thought by going with quality stuff like this trans kit from the guys at Keisler and a strong crate motor from someone I might just be able to turn this mess around by spring!

Had the same thoughts myself last fall, then decided to drop in a GMPP 502 and the Keisler five speed over the winter into the 72 and never looked back.
The Keisler is a clean install, everything fit better than factory. Tech support was first rate, and questions or issues were quickly resolved.
Anybody know the price of the 3 speed auto to 5 speed conversion kit? I requested a quote from them, but I'm just too impatient to wait for the mail....
I have a couple friends who have Tremec 5sd's and they really like them. I have had mine for over a year, it's still in the box. When I am ready to install mine, they say they will help me. I have to do a conversion from auto to stick. I have new petal's installed, I was told that was the hardest part. I have been hesitant about doing mine because I want to change my engine at the same time. If you get yours installed before me, let us know how it was to install.
I hope I get mine installed this winter.

A Keisler 5-speed is the last major upgrade I want to make on my '80. I'm thinking my net cost will be less than the Keisler kit costs because I can probably sell my rebuilt Super T-10 4-speed.
I just can't say enough about my Keisler 5 speed. Of all the mods I've done. I really wish that the 5 speed was the first. It just makes driving a lot more enjoyable.
I am looking at getting one of the 5 speeds I sent a e-mail to KEISLER and no response yet on my questions on price or options , I think I would need the TKO-600 as my 540 will make over 600hp.
Hope I get a response soon, I just ordered my Torque thrust 2's today from Tomz wheelz and was very happy with there service and price, hope the transmission will happen the same

That's a lot.... but that's for everything you need to have a 3 speed auto at 9 in the morning, and by 9 at night have a 5 speed.
A little more than I was hoping to spend, but damn, it's tempting.
New suspension or new transmission............
It is a lot of $$ there is no doubt. However, it still seems a better value than me trying to Bubba one together using stuff from a junk yard.
The thought was a one weekend free for all - in the garage Friday night with a tiered 454 that has lifter knock and is attached to a still fairly new TH400 auto (can prob sell that as it is a good trans) and out Sunday night with a new stroker 454 and a 5 speed...... The only thing is as we ALL know things rarely work this way
