Welcome to the forum. I bought my first Vette when I was 18, and man it really changes the way you grow up.
The most important things to look at are brakes and suspension. Safety first. Make sure all your calipers are not leaking, that the rubber lines are in good shape, that the fluid level is good, and that the fluid is not brown and rancid.
Also make sure that all your suspension bushings are in good shape, and that you don't have a lot of play in the steering or bearings.
Once those two things are good, you can focus on engine, interior, and exterior.
That's good advice. Welcome to the forum! It is good to know there are people interested in keeping these cars in top shape, and you sound like one.. Best of luck

experience tells me that once I paint mine, all I will want to do is drive it. So its going to look a bit rough for a few more years. But it's almost totally rebuilt under neath
