until this past summer. i did a massive over haul to it. new carb, new plugs, new wires, new coil, new fuel lines (ended up replacing the entire fuel system over the last 2 years), new hurst shifter and got the head lights working correctly.
i went almost 4 months and probably almost 1000 miles with out a single problem. then 2 weeks ago i blew the water pump and took out the fan clutch with it. a minor project.
I drove mine about 1500 miles last summer without a problem. Now its getting a winter overhaul. Rear trailing arms are out and having new bearings and bushings installed. I also have a pile of parts in the garage waiting to go on. New Bilstein shocks, new fuel pump, new water pump, new Dewitts radiator, and a VB&P poly front suspension kit. Hopefully after all that, I can make it though next summer without a problem.
Hardly at all- but thats after alot of time n money for maintenance, restoration n upgrades. Hey, its old machinery wrapped in fiberglass- and a fun hobby thats always a work in progress. 5K great miles a year for me.
The car's seen a flatbed twice since I've had it, but not because it's broken down. First time was my stupid fault after the motor went out after a rather spirited drive with a BMW M5, and the second was because I got rear ended and couldn't drive it home.
Always been great until I do something to screw it up.
If anything goes wrong with the engine or trans, thats not a Corvette problem, thats just problems with the cheapest mass produced hunk of iron made, next to an aluminum can!
outside of a rod going thru the oilpan 16yrs ago and 80,0000 mi ago NADA that was the cars fault. oh yeah there was the time i put my new DeWitts radiator in and took it for it's maiden voyage w/it the elect fan decided to take a crap and the next thing i know the engine got hot so i pulled over n went to pop the hood open n the cable broke so i went to look under the vette to see if it was leaking fluid when i heard this Swoosh followed by all my new coolant splashing against me n all over my spotless engine compartment n suspension, i was a lil bummed to say the least, what a day that was.

My 68 has never left me stranded on the road...YET. My 65 has left me stranded a few times over 37 years. It's been flat bedded a few times as has my 61. Not much you can do when a fuel pump quits or a water pump goes south. It's the only reason I have a cell phone. With 4 Vettes I am assured of always having something to fix. That's the way it is. Right now I'm chasing some pulley noise in my 68
