Default Which Head

Hi All,

I have a 1972 Corvette with a stock 350 engine NOM. I need to take the heads off to do some work and I was wondering what I should do to make it breath a little better. Im not planning on playing with the cam, but I will put a set of extractor on it. My questions are as follows.

1) If Im not going to touch the cam is it even worth doing work to the heads or should I get them tidied up and stick them back on?

2) Should I just get the heads I have ported and polished and put them back on?

3) Is it worth buying a new set of performance heads and if so whats going to give me the biggest bang for my buck.

Thanks
Dave

Check the heads you have first!! My 350 has 1.94 intake, iron heads casting number 487X. I was considering a change to 2.02's...after looking at the data even though the head has a smaller intake? the numbers say the runners flow well, something to do with the "X". I would change them for a set of the older factory aluminum heads, in the absence of a good deal on those?? I am doing some hand work on what I have (port matching/volume calibration/runner smoothing) before sending them off for a fresh valve job....I'm also thinking future octane!!

Most likely the fastest easiest way is to just buy the Edlebrock heads and intake. Because I have a numbers matching car I rebuilt the heads, required new values, springs etc and put in roller rockers. It cost me a lot more then just buying the Edlebrock kit and in the end didn't really give me any more HP. If I didn't care about the numbers I would do the Edlebrook kit.
