I recently got all the trim off to inspect my birdcage on my 80'. Thankfully, due in no small part to where my uncle lived, it had almost no rust, and no rot on it. I know that this is a very common place for rust to occure, and was wondering if there is any preventitive steps i can take to stop it from rusting in the future? thanks for the advice,
Steve
First, strip everything down with a wire wheel and just try to get as much of the rust flakes out as you can.
Then, get some Por-15, and paint it all over the exposed birdcage structure. Once it's all cured, reinstall the trim and you're good to go for many more years.

Yep. That's what I did to my 68 after it was media blasted. The front end being off, made it easy to paint all the bird cage metal.
