Numbers just means that all of the factory original parts are on the car. Most components of your car have part numbers stamped into them, indicating what year they were installed, on what model, and relating to your VIN. Numbers just means that you still have original engine, trans, yata yata yata.

Every part on your car has a number...most of those matter when considering a car numbers matching.

If that's what you like, then feel lucky. If you don't really care about if you ever sell your car or what it's worth, then the matching numbers really don't mean much.

The stamp on the engine block should match the last few digits of your VIN. Your alternator, carb, heads, dist, tranny, rear end numbers should match the numbers listed in the Corvette Black Book. The term numbers matching seems to be a relative term.

I bought my 78 from a corvette dealer, the add said "Numbers Match". The block, tranny, rear end match but the carb, dist and heads don't.

A good book to get would be "Corvette by the numbers" by Alan Colvin.

Also a good resource is the NCRS Judging Guide for your year. It contains descriptions of finishes, part numbers, casting numbers, survey results, how to interpret date codes etc.

...all Corvettes are "numbers" cars, it's just that some "match" and some do NOT.

...then there are some that "partially" match...

..then there are "re-stamped matched" cars...

Not
Correctly
Re-stamped

If you bought it w/o caring if it was or not, chances are it's not a matching numbers.

Thanks Guys, when I bought the car the guy told me that the numbers matched, I thought that ment just the drive train, motor, trans and diff. it has a few new parts on it like the alt and dist. but I think most everything else is original.
