Turns out my problem is a bad AC relay - the siver box that mounts on the firewall. Who sell these - i looked in Eklers and Dr. Rebuild, but do not see them. Someone mentioned Autozone in one of the threads, but I can't find the thread. Any help appreciated.
Interesting - opened up the AC relay and found the little diode was bad. Bought a package of 2 at Radio Shack, soldered one in to replace the bad one, and now the relay works! Ordered a new one to play it safe, but they are repairable!
One last question - new problem. With either the repaired relay or the new relay installed, only speeds 2, 3, and Hi work. Lo does not work as default in off position nor does it work as Lo in any of the AC through Defrost positions. It did work the other day. Suggestions?
Here is a schematic with some notes on the circuit. Check for 12v on the Brown wire on the resistor pack with the switch on Low. Tan is Medium and Lt Blue is Medium High.
Sixfooter - You are fantastic! I checked the Brown wire and it's putting out 12 volts. I looked at the resister pack connector and it looked slightly bent so I straightened it and now all 4 speeds work perfectly and the Lo fan runs in the AC control Off position.
