If it is worn out or deteriorated from brake fluid leaking down on it, replacing it will make a BIG difference in tightening up your steering. If you replace it, don't cheap out. Use a genuine GM replacement part. They run anywhere from sixty five to a hundred dollars depending on where you order it from.
Could result in lost motion in steering. Some are worn to the point of tearing apart. Should be flat installed as well. Be sure if you replace it you use a GM rag only- pay the higher price for the better part. Mark the column so you can see if it moves up during install.

straight thanks......Thanks for all the great answers. I suspect I will replace mine with a GM replacement. As usual this forum is a priceless resource for the Corvette hobbyist.
I had 5 degrees of play in my steering. It all came from the rag joint.
Replacing it was a 15 minutes job and my car now just needs one lane
Open your hood and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you look at the steering shaft before and after the rag joint. If they don't move exactly in concert, replace it.
