Default Flowmasters

I know that it would take true duals and nice mufflers to get the power from an exhaust system but what kind of sound would come from a set of flow masters on a stock exhaust setup. I need to assess the smog issues. In the mean time I would like a bit of a growl.

It'd still sound like flowmasters, not as deep, but none the less and even though flowmasters don't flow all that well for aftermarkets, they do flow a bit better than stock, especially older stock mufflers.

I'm somebody who installs Flowmaster's on EVERY single car I own. For me it's not about performance in the least......there's so many other things to do for that. Besides, the small amount of difference you actually gain by going with a different brand will NEVER be noticed in and of itself.

How much sound you actually get will be determined by a few different things. Do you plan on keeping the engine mostly stock? Do you also plan on keeping the rest of the exhaust system stock? If so, I wouldn't go with the "Deltaflow Series" muffer myself. They are in the category of the quietest mufflers. (With being stock you might not notice it enough)

The "Original 40 Series" 2 chamber muffler is the second loudest muffler they have. It's only second because the newer "Super 40 Series" muffler is made with a larger 5" case, but it's also been redesigned to have a lower interior resonance than the original. In my opinion, the best one to go with would be the Newest "Super 44 Series" because it still has that agressive flowmaster tone without being loud inside your car. It also has the smaller 4" case so it's better for tucking up out of the way. And, you can get them for only $79.95 ea. with Free Shipping! (I actually just ordered a set of those for mine on Friday)

That's just my .02 worth......I hope it helps a little!

Go for the Flowmaster 40's. Even with all that smog junk choking the system, it'll finally sound like a "VETTE". I've got them on an 82 with no smog stuff and I love the sound.

The L48 was 2 1/4" and the L82 was 2 1/2". If you plan to improve your engine in the future, go with the larger pipes and mufflers now.

I have the new super 40's on my '80 and I think they sound great. With the new tech on the chambers they are much nicer for interior sound than the origional 40's. I aslo happen to have ran 2.5" from manifold back with duals. Stock is 2.25"

I also ran these on a C-4 with the cat and it too sounded great.

Did you mount them in the stock location or are they mounted closer to the front?

They are installed in the stock location. I ran 2.5" duals from the manifolds back with the left side crossing to the right just aft of the trans and back to where the stock "Y" would have been then the 2 widen back to the stock locations.

It was all welded with no clamps and round stock hangers with ploy bushings. Very neat and tight system.

From the rear it looks like a stock system with stock looking turn downs to exit from under the bumper.
