im planning out a speaker system for my 82 and i just wanted to see what a few other people created.
I just got a couple of 6x9s has anyone else put these in theircar?
It's a simple, head unit, pair of 6.5" coaxial speakers in the kick panels, a single 10" sub in an enclosure I built, and a 4 channel amp to run them mounted on the back wall.
The system in my car is very similar except I have a more powerful amp, a higher watt sub, a component set in front instead of coaxial speakers, and a different head unit.
The head unit is just a simple one by Custom Audio Sound, the rear speakers are quality 6"x9"s by Alpine, the front dash speakers are 4"x6"s by Infinity, the amp is a four channel by Memphis and a 12 disc cd changer by Sony.I purchased the box from corvette central and I flipped it upside downto have room for the changer and amp.The sound that it delivers is "Great",but I still want to install a 10"sub somewhere in there.I guess it sounds good to me since I mainly Jamm to rock by AC/DC,Rush,Ozzy,Sabbath,hendrix,zepp....,Ec t,Ect..
From: 90% of all Fords are still on the road.....the other 10% actually made it home!
It's not actually in the car yet, but these are the components that will be going in my '81. They were in my C5 until it was totaled last month. The Subs are Pioneer Premier's that handle 3000W ea., and the amp is a Competition Series MA-Audio that puts out 2200W into 1 ohm & 4400W RMS mono into .5 ohm. I need to get the car wired with 0 guage or it will never handle all the power I'll be running. I'll also be installing a second battery in the rear compartment behind the passenger seat.

What the?? Why are you putting that into a C3??? I'm a big audiophile and I'm not sure I even want a stereo in my 74 because the exhaust plays some pretty good notes

IMO, that's a little overkill for a C3. I have a single JL 10W1 and it's more than enough for that little fiberglass speakerbox of a car. You're gonna shake that damn car apart, but hey, to each their own.

I've been a Drummer for 28 years and I "LIVE" to feel my music. I don't like just hearing it......I like to feel as if I'm still up on that stage performing in front of thousands of fans!

RedCruz, I'm totally digging those gauges
You're definitely entitled to your own opinion! If I happen to shake something lose I'll go ahead and tighten it. If I break something I'll just replace it,.............in the mean time though, I'll be having a "BLAST"!!!
I understand not everybody feels the same way about music as I do, but when you grow up as a musician like I did, making music of your own and watching the people out in the audience totally into it,.......it's better than any drug in the whole world. It's actually difficult for me to decide which is more important to me,.......cars or music. Therefore I combine the two and get a double dose every time I drive!

Let me guess what totaled the C5 too much base..............
When you're a Drummer, you can never have too much bass!!!
And I was T-Boned by a Semi........

I'm not knocking it, I believe you can do whatever you want with your car. At least it's quality stuff. I hate seeing people buy these "3000 Watt" systems for $100 thinking it sounds good.
I feel you when you say you love music and cars. I'm a musician as well although I play acoustic guitar in my acoustic band so I like quality over loud.
i myself am very big into music ive played many instruments since i was very small and this is why i want a nice set up in my new toy im just not sure what to go for
Im pretty much just stuck on the sub i dont know what to get or what will sound good for our type of car.

I would be happy to walk you through some options and suggestions, equipment, and best places to buy.

I can go into specifics about the install, but it's relatively easy.
First, you can cut a single DIN opening in your stock gauge bezel and install a good modern head unit.
A single pair of coaxial speakers are both good for the budget and can sound great when quality is maintained. These should go in the kick panels for best sound, a simple round hole for the speaker, and a grill will go over the outside to protect the cone.
Next a small but efficient subwoofer. This can go in a small box off to the side of your storage area, and still leave you room to store your T-tops. I have made a few of these boxes for forum members and would be happy to help you with one too.
You'll need some wiring, but all of this stuff is a good mixture of high quality and low price. Value is the key here. Yes there is less expensive equipment, but the quality suffers greatly, and you may end up doing it all over again down the road, spending more than if you had done it right the first time.
