Default 1980 Questions

Purchased an "80" coupe which needs TLC. My manual tells me to drill out the rivets holding on the rotors. What size is the rivet shaft and what is used to hold the rotor in place when its put back onto the car.

Also were the original calipers SS sleeved? Has any-one rebuilt the calipers using the Ecklers re-build kit?

This is my winter project and I'm sure to have other questions as I proceed. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

you might have better luck posting this question in the C3 section... this section is for Corvette model years 2005-2008.

Cheers!

I'm sure by now the rivets have already been removed. I'm sure the calipers are SS sleeved also but you won't know until their removed. Eklers has good stuff. I've used them for years. Good luck and you will find lots of good information in the C3 section.

Drill them puppies out. I figure a 1/4" bit should work, but why not do it right and use a 1/2" bit. If a little is good, more is better, right? Then I'd use a #2 pencil to hold it in place when you put it back in.

The originals were not SS sleeved - they used the sleeves of a vest. Haven't used the Ecklers kit so I can't comment on that.

Okay, now you know that some of us (okay, ME) have a stupid sense of humor. I know nothing about this project, but thought you might like a little humor from your brief visit to the "C6" section. Come back and visit when you have more time

Why do you feel the need to remove your rotors? Normally they last at least 100- 125K miles.

Your original calipers were not SS sleeved.

Wow! Good thing I hadn't had a few beer's and decided to follow the first post I came to.

I like your sense humor and will remember to take advise with a lemon Tequila and a grain or two of salt.

It's been four years since I did mine, but I want to say that they are 5/16".
