Default Wheel Opinion & Question

Right now my '81 has rally wheels on it. I wanted some opinions on keeping the rally's or going with the aluminum ones?

And can someone tell me what the difference between these 2 besides the price

These are from ecklers:
Corvette Aluminum Wheels, 1980-1982

Replacement Wheels
Aluminum wheels were available as an option on 1976-82 Corvettes. Wheels can be used as a replacement or as an upgrade for all 1968-82 Corvettes. All wheels are 15" x 8". Lug nuts, center caps and emblems are available separately, and not included with wheels.
$699.99 per set

These are from Mid-America
From 1976-82 Kelsey Hayes produced the optional YJ8 aluminum wheels for Corvette. Long since discontinued, quality wheels have become almost impossible to find for restoration or driving purposes. Mid America Motorworks has changed all that with these reproduction YJ8 wheels and wheel sets. Reproduced in exact detail, these wheels are precision cast using the latest technology. CNC milling assures you of a wheel with excellent balance and a striking finish that rivals anything on the market today. Perfect for restoring your 1976-82 or to improve the looks, ride and handling of your 1968-75 (no adaptors needed).
$1049.99 per set

Both include the same things

I would suggest that you look around for a set of used original ones. You should be able to find a set between the price range $200-$300. I have seen several of them posted for sale on the forum. Place a 'Wanted to buy' posting in the parts for sale section. It's easy to polish and clean them and it makes sense to buy used original ones.

I bought a set for $300 from a forum member a year ago, shipped to my door. He was kind enough to throw in the lug nuts and the center caps.

Good luck with your restoration.

Look for a set of original wheels in good condition.

Mine were in pretty rough shape, but they cleaned up pretty well with some elbow grease and patients. Other materials required are listed in other CF posts.

There is a set of 4 on eBay now. Starting price is $300 and the auction ends on Christmas day. (Great timing!) The seller even volunteers to polish them before shipping.

I don't have a great picture, but here are two that I took before polishing them.
