Default Zl1

I just saw a thread about the new corvette, but what I really liked was GM Performance trotting out a new ZL1!!!!! Anybody going to upgrade their C3 to this legendary motor? $$$$$

...I would not "upgrade" from any of my C3s, but if I hit the MegaMillions I'd probably get one.

It is a ZR1 not a ZL1. Would be a cool motor in a C3. Someone will do one before to long.

You can make one right now minus the charger they use. The engine is just a 6200 6.2L 378 truck motor. Swap out the heads and the cam and install a Whipple low mount marine super charger and you'll almost there for about $5K. I would try that over buying an LS3 crate or the Blue Devil engine for upwards of $15K.

Great article and history on the ZL1 at GMPerformance.com in the motor section. No mention of a ZR in the history of this big block.

OOPS I misread your post. The new car is the ZR1, the engine you are talking about is the ZL1. My bad.

I agree with Durango boy, you can take a LS2 or 3 motor and put far less dollars in it and have more than 600HP. Seems like a lot of $$$ for something that can be done for less. I realize the car has a lot of differnce than the stock one but I'll bet that 99% of the new ZR1 cars will never be driven to their potential. Well maybe 95% of them.

There's a lot more to the ZR-1 than just the engine... Extensive use of carbon fiber and other exotic materials, carbon ceramic rotors/brembo calipers, magneto-rheological shocks, etc. There's a lot of technology in that car. The 3350 pound weight was about the only disappointment for me... Especially when early reports had the car coming in at around 2800-2900 pounds.

I must say that I'm a bit underwhelmed by the exterior though. The car looks like it was styled by a bunch of adolescent boys. The window in the hood is nothing more than a cheap marketing gimmick and that clear coated roof is something out of a ricer's wet dream. I was definitely considering looking at one, but not until they paint the darn thing one color.

I'd love to get those brakes for my Z06 though!

Regards,
