I'd like the engine, other than that, I'd sell the body for suspension and interior parts.
"...so engineers offset that somewhat with a carbon-fiber hood and front fenders that feature dual-gill air outlets behind the front wheels..... Juechter said carbon-fiber breakdown would have been unacceptable in a car that almost certainly will sell for $100,000 to $125,000."
Panic, are you reading this? GM is gonna out do you on cutting back weight.
100-125K just to have some idiot in a Honda sideswipe you on the freeway? That would be my luck. I love USA but if I'm gonna lay out that kind of cash it better be speaking italian...
By the way, the Chevy dealer here has a Christmas special on a Z06, just 79K is all....
I wouldnt mind having some of the 60k a gal paint!!! Think what it would bring on ebay

Yeah, that paint price is insane!
Very cool Vette though. I'd love to get behind the wheel to see what it's like.
Goes into production in summer of 2008, forsale in fall of 2008, does that mean you can take receipt of it in the fall or is that when you can order yours from the dealer???
You'd think GM would start delivering them in the spring so the owners can drive them and the public can see them on the roads sparking interest in those that can afford them to go order them.
Doesn't make sense to release them in the fall where they'll be tucked away for the winter soon after.
But maybe at that price they'll all be trailer/garage queens.

But more relevent to me... "GM plans to build ZR1s at a max volume of approximately 2000 per year for the remainder of the C6's life cycle--about four more years--plenty of time for it to stake its claim as the all-time Corvette king." So in 5 years C7s come out? That means I can buy a C5 Z06 then...

I couldn't agree more with this. As much as I like Corvettes, its gonna have get a lot more exotic than rehashed C5 body lines to get me to spend Lambo money on it, (clarification: used Lambo money). Incredible HP ratings aside, this car remains on a dull visual scale. C'mon GM.
I really hated the C6 when it was first released, but I must say that each time I see one(particulary Z06) it grows on me more and more. This one does look good too. It will be one of those cars cars that you rarely see(kinda like the '96 Grandsport).
It was designed to hand the Italian cars their a$$es, just like the Cobra did back when it was released.
I, for one, am glad to see an American car built to perform to the standards of the high end European sports cars. I don't make a lot of distinction between European and Japanese - they're all imports and most Americans have been lead to believe that they're somehow better whether they are or not. Moreso than men, women have been taught that if an item carries a certain label and higher price, it must be better, even when shown that they're sometimes the same exact thing as another with a lower price tag and different label. I'm not saying that the Lambo's and Ferraris aren't top quality cars, but the name doesn't necessarily automatically make them better than anything we can produce here. The ones I've seen are high-strung, high rpm performers which generally equates to higher maintenance. BMW and Mercedes included, there's not a $75,000 - 100,000 European ride that will perform with the current Z06 in 1/4 mile, top end and handling combined.
The biggest problem with both - the Italian sports cars and the ZR1 - is finding a place in this country where you can take it out and stretch it's legs. The drag strip is fun but in one of this class car, it's like a 16 year old boy getting lucky in the back seat of mom's car - it's over before you really get to see what it's all about.
Screw 'em, I'm an American car guy, most particularly a Chevy man. An American Revolution, you bet your butt - if an American car manufacturer is going to survive over the long haul, I think it's going to be Chevy and the LS engine family is going to be the reason why.
Let the flames begin!
