This is my first post to the forum and my first attempt with my new '77 L-48 project. I am about to remove the seats to gain access to the seat belts (Phase 1 - Project 2) and want to recover the seats. They are black leather and I have new foam and leather from Mid America ready and waiting. I also bought the kit, hog rings, clips, etc. Anyone have a bit of sage advice before I dig in to the seats or have a reference document that may give me some tips on this one? Wish me luck if nothing else to offer. Thanks for your help in advance.
I believe both CorvetteFever and ZipProducts have guides on their websites. Just search for "installing seat covers in a C3 Corvette" and you'll get a ton of hits on Google or this website.
Patience, heat/steam, and apparently more patience
Follow directions on Corvette America's website....I just completed mine on my 74 and it was easy and the seats came out great....I also bought the new foam, clips and installation tools......Fred
I just did the seats in my 75 and I will echo the previous posters. The Corvette America video (link attached below) tutorial walks you through the process and makes the install very easy. I found that, especially for the seat back, the use of baby powder is a must. Also, a heat gun helps to make the covers more pliable. Mine were vinyl so maybe the affect won't be as pronounced on the leather. Finally, I ran out of hog rings on the second seat back and ended up having to order more. I may have used more than proscribed (but I really don't think so) or maybe my install kit was just a little short. Either way, something to look out for. Good luck with the install.
You know, it struck me as odd that David stated in his post that this was his first post to the forum. After my reply, I went back and read it again. Guys, this is a 4 1/2 year old thread. I'm pretty David is well beyond needing this information.
