I've heard you either get a system that works real well, or the A/C is a handy device to cool your left knee. On my 79 the compressor kicks on but it doesn't blow cold. It's on my list of things to fix eventually because I'd like for it to work, but I wouldn't use it that often.

With the high humidity in the DC area, I use the a/c in the '71 and '88 quite often during July/August.

One of the previous owners gutted the A/C system out of my car. All that's left is the A/C heater control panel and evaporator on the inside of the passenger side fender with half of the hose that goes to the compressor coming off it. This winter I'll look at removing the rest of the junk related to it. I don't care to use it anyway, I'd rather have the T-Tops off and the windows down. I practically never even use the A/C in my DD either, I put the windows down and open the sunroof. It has to be really, really hot for Me close it up and put the A/C on.

Default When you need it, you need it.

I found my car had great paint and junk engine compartment back in 2005. Put two cans of 34a in the A/C and it worked.
I love driving with the tops off, but around here you get rain on very hot days. Boy that is when you need A/C.

I'm leaning towards leaving it out, but I don't want to make the wrong decision!

Then A/C it is.. maybe

What about the vents? Would that help on a non A/C car?

Mine hasn't worked since I got my car 12 years ago, but after I complete the big-block and 700r4 swap this spring, I'll be looking into what it will take to get the a/c going.

I rebuilt my whole system on my 75 convertible. Most of the time I have the top down. I do use it on hot days until night fall.

Mine doesn't work right now. Who needs it anyway? When it gets over 100 outside, I just put the tops ON so it's only 120 in the shade.

When it gets up into the hundreds, I leave the tops on, roll the windows down and pop out the rear window. Doing that actually keeps me comfortable for the most part. I know it sure made a huge difference installing that removable window! I am still undecided.. I guess I'll have to wait and see what summer says..

The A/C in my '80 had been "maintained" by Bubba, so it was non-op like most everything else when I bought my car from Michael "Monthief" in 2000. (I wish I had known about this CF then. ) I just didn't put the A/C back in when I re-did everything under the hood.

I live in Minnesota, so there aren't too many days when A/C is really necessary. When we finally do have temps in the 90's, we celebrate! Windows down is enough for most days, T-tops off for those few days when we need more air.

Default Upgraded mine

I use mine. T-tops off are great but not at 100 degrees. Just changed the compressor to a Sanborn. Big improvement. Original system would not cool the car. I'm working on adding a fan for the condensor to hopefully further improve it. I would keep the system.

The car currently doesn't have A/C, I would have to add it. I already have bought most of the ductwork and evaporator cover and more to convert. My biggest gripe was more on the weight. I was trying to convince myself I don't need A/C. The car has an L48, but that will get replace with a BB. I wanted to keep the car as close as possible to the 50/50 weight distribution. I am figure that the A/C is going to add approx. 100 lbs to the front end w/ the evaporator, condensor, compressor and all the brackets to hold everything in place.

If there wasn't so many smokeys, I probably would. However, with my luck, I'd get cought and get a ticket!

I paid big bucks for the optional AC in 79. I was stationed in Florida and then Houston. But I've been in Cali. since 88. I leave the top off most of the time and freon has gone unobtainable. I'm in the process of removing the AC now. I'm never selling this car, so to heck with the resale value.
