In the summer, I always find myself taking the t-tops off, rolling the windows down, and sometimes popping the rear window out. I don't think, I've ever used my a/c in my DD. Is this normal? Or do you use your a/c?
My project car doesn't have a/c, would you install a/c or leave it out?
Dean, believe it or not i never switched the A/C on my japanese long train on tires while in Bangkok...the mix pollution+traffic microdust+aircon hits me badly every time.
My present '79 never came with it. I wouldn't bother sticking it in . Too much $$$. To much bother. My previous '79 ( back in '83)
DID have AC and I did use it on long trips , but I can't recall using it much around town at all. So I guess I'd say if you were planning on
using the car for major trips - yeah maybe. If not - no.
I live in Dallas Tx area and My 72 and 98 both have AC. I have never used the AC in the summer in both of them. I'm alway riding with the tops off. But I know that if my wife is in the car I would have to use the AC. But then again she dosen't ride in the vettes much.
My heating cooling guy had A shotof the good stuff left and I worked on his Hottub so he charged up my system .Worked gteat for about A week then at a red light on Rt.23 South she ka blouied the hose shot all the new coolant right on my Exhaust made A hell of A smoke from under the hood . I pulled over saw what it was shut the hood and drove home wondering what it will cost to replace the hoses and switch to the new stuff. So Im Reduced to 2-60 Right now.
I will use mine if it works next summer; only just replaced the thermal heat limit fuse and that is what was keeping my system from working. we will see what else this spring; I want to see if I can get my gas mileage down to 5. LOL
Here in Central Florida, I drive with T-tops off 90% of the time. I'll run the A/C for the first 5 minutes or so just to take the edge off the heat - that's it.
I run the heat all the time - it's called 350 cubic inch motor / no carpet or insulation on the floor!
GM never meant for the A/C to be used in the Corvette...it is the most ill-designed and inadequate system probably installed in a new car. It was designed for spring time in Detroit. I have a custom 70 convertible with no working air. I bought the stuff to fix it a couple years ago and then decided that it was a waste of time and money to install it since I never ride with the top up.
