Default What Would You Do If...

Happy new year to you all!

I am looking for advice.

I have a 1970 small block 350 with 300 hp and the 400 turbo auto trans in my vette. I would like to get it over 400hp.

What would you do if you had the 350 / 300 and wanted to bump it up a bit?

I would like to keep the cost to a minimum but I am open for anything and really do not care about keeping it stock.

As always...thanks!

Default Is the motor the original?

If the car has the original motor , I would consider removing it and putting in a motor that gets you the power you want.

Then store the original away for aa later date.

If the motor is not original

A cam , intake , larger carb. performance exhaust could find a lot of power, Next step would be performance heads.

Your ring gear needs to be considered before you start.

Have fun

I am not sure if it is the original motor. The guy I bought it from said it was.

Are there any particular cams, intakes, carbs etc.. you would suggest. Please be specific for I am a novice. A friend told me it would be cheaper to buy a new engine than to build my 350. Sorry for my ignorance but what is a ring gear? Thanks!

Default There are no bad or dumb questions

If there is 1 thing I have been impressed with on this forum , it is that no body judges someone on their knowledge. Just a lot of great people helping each other.

Before someone can point you in a specific direction you need to describe what you are looking for.

A drag type set up with rabbit like take offs

Or High Speed cruising

Or something in the middle ( a little of both )

Also do you know your rear gear ratio?

If not then what does your car tach at 60 MPH when in drive or final gear.

Also what is the rear tire size?

I am sure there are many other more qulified members to offer the specific parts , but the answers to the questions above will help them

Also , can you give a rough budget #?

David

I took my original engine(needed rebuild) out and found another 68 327 from an impala and built it with 2.02 heads,10.5:1 flat top pistons, new intake and Edelbrock 600. Also put ceramic headers, 2 1/2 " stainless pipes. I bought the basic engine already done, so I can't tell you what cam I have. After doing the above mods to it, (forgot electronic ignition, also) it runs like a raped ape. We have not put it on a dyno, but all involved with it say 380 hp, maybe 400. I have $1800 in the whole thing! I am keeping the original motor on the shelf.
