Need tire/wheel size help.PLEASE!!!!
I need help with a wheel/tire combo with ACI ZL1 flares on '68 'vert running V/B mono set up front and rear.
After reading several threads on this I need help and opinions. I'm looking to run 17x9.5" wheels with 275/40 tires in the front and 17x11" wheels with 315/35 tires in the rear. I want the fenders to look full and really don't like the tucked in look. My questions are will this combo work and what backspacing do I need? I have read that 275/35-18s on 9.5" wide wheels with 4.5" backspace works. I have also read that 17s on the front with 4.5" backspace can have suspension clearance issues. So does that mean the front backspace needs to stay at 4" like the factory wheels. If I do go to 4" will there be fender lip clearance issues? In the rear there are a lot a cars running 12" - 12.5" wide wheels with 4.5" - 5.0" but they are 18s and the rear suspension goes inside a 18" wheel. So if you go to 17" should the backspace stay at 4" in the rear also. Going to a 12" wide rear wheel is not an option since the wheels are not available wider that 11". The car that has the look that I'm after is Chris McDonald's black '69 convertible (69MyWay I believe used in the V/B adds). Yes I realize wheels this wide with such a shallow backspace is going to be tough on the wheel bearings. I'm sure there are people out here that have had to deal with this. What did you do? Thanks in advance for the help. Kevin

Here's a bump Kevin. Come on guys I know there's a couple of cars with flares being built on the forum. Panic or Stan are you out there? I know you guys are running 15s but if 15s clear on the inside 17s have to. Thanks in advance.
