I know this will probably be what some consider to be a silly question, but here it goes anyway! What exactly are the trailing arms and what do they do? I have a pretty good idea, but I'm not really sure....Also, if they were bad / worn out would that have anything to do with a "click" "click" "click" noise I'm hearing from under the rear end? The clicking noise seems to match in succession with speeding up and slowing down. Ideas? Opinions? Thanks for any input.
Trailing arms are part of the rear suspension. They are hinged to the frame at the rear kick-up and support the rear bearing assembly/ Brakes/ Rotor/Wheel.
The clicking you hear can be from any number of sources- bearings/ brakes/ rearend.
As you seem to be new to corvettes, I suggest you order catalogs from vendors such as ZIP corvettes, Paragon, Corvette Central and Mid America. They all have websites and free catalogs with color pictures of all the parts and the names of every part you can imagine. The assembly manual and shop manual for your year can also be ordered online. Good Luck!
It is possible that your rear wheel bearings could be bad and causing the noise, but as said in the last post, it could be the differential, brakes, u-joints, or something else.
I had my wheel bearings replaced and just finished putting the trailing arms back on the car tonight.

My guess this noise is 1 of these things: emregency brake cable, broken brake spring, wheel bearing, u-joint, differential fluid.
Trailing arms usually make a clunking noise when you place the car into gear.

I too had a clicking / grinding noise and checked all the above before noticing metal shaving and a crack down through the arm where the bearing assebly mounted to it. This only happend while making right hand turns. Hope yours is less of a pain......
anyone know a good shop on the chicago area for rebulding trailing arms? it's my understanding there are some critical items in there and it's better left to a pro. i've looked into sending my t/a's and diff to toms differentials and getting the 30 spline axles etc. anyone know what they soak you for this?
