Default axle u-joint question

How big of a pain is to replace the u-joints on the rear axle? Is there a trick to getting them out?(the axle from the car) Thanx!

i just did my half-shafts and it was really easy to get the old ones out - a little trickier to get the new ones in though (for a rookie like me). to get them out first remove the clips from both sides and find a socket with an OD that is just under the ID size of the shaft opening. support the driveshaft so that it is a few inches off of the ground (i used a 4x4) and place the socket on top of the u joint and hit the socket with a hammer. hit it until the opposite side cap comes out. then you should be able to wiggle the inner part of the joint out. then just hit the socket to get the other cap out. this worked really well for me but others but others may have other methods. good luck

Taking off the halfshafts is rather easy...removing the Ujoints from the shafts can be a pain.

Here's a thread that's usefull. The very last post has a link to a how to post by GTR1999...very good reading on how to get the job done right
