LOL. Not only is that $55K ZO6 a scam, the first time somebody drove the car, that is, got on it, they would know in a heartbeat there was something seriously wrong with the car - No Sale! But the C3 would be killer fun.
Cheers,
Pete
Yeah, I realized that. I just hope no one goes out and does it!

If the term "numbers matching" meant every part on the car the only C3s that would fall under that category would be those '78 Pace Cars that were driven straight from the dealer to the garage & parked for life......

What happen to the Budman78 that we knew?

Here is my opinion....
You should not be able to call your vette #'s matching if is missing any parts. No smog, no numbers matching. I see so many vette on forums and ebay that are #'s matching with missing parts, trans has been changed out, etc. etc. A numbers matching car should be assemble correct and complete. I also agree service replacement engines should be accepted. I would hate see a guy whom spent his whole life protecting a car and he over-revs his vette throwing a rod through the pan.
Why should you be able to call your vette numbers matching if it has Edelbrock heads and a non stock wheels??? Just my opinion...
Just thought this would be a good topic to discuss.
Mr. Budman78 with a EFI swap into a C3. Then Budman78 with 1 of the first LS motor swaps into a C3. Mr. conversion himself now talking matching numbers?
Something 'bout that chrome bumber C3 has changed our fearless leader of modifications himself. It only a matter of time before with lose Budman78 to the matching everything and original everything C2 crowd. Yep, before long we will have call by Budman58.
Well for my opinion 'bout match'n numbers i think its great for resale but a lot less fun than running whatever u want. What i'm trying to say is if u want to increase the value of your vette then the more matching numbers the better. The more original the better too.
And if u don't care so much for "correct" numbers then u should not care so much for your cars value or resale.

You are cracking me up. The 68 I bought is far from matching #'s. It might even be a FI car one day also. The day I buy a correct stamped bolt is the day you guys need to lock me up.
The topic was for fun and discussion. It gets kind of boring in the C3 General section, so I thought I would stir it up a little. Actually some good points came out of it.
Thanks for all the interesting points. Mods you can lock this one down.
Buddy,
I’m still sticking to my original point. As long as the engine block, transmission, body and frame have the VIN numbers stamped on them. It’s a matching number Corvette. You can always find the correct date code for accessory like a smog pump, Alternator, ETC. I bought my ’68 Vette without the original engine or tranny. The frame matches the body, but that’s about it. That's why it makes an excellent candidate for a LS1 engine conversion. Now if I can find time to finish the Vette.

I'm afraid that I'm on the side of the "if the engine, frame, tranny and rear end are original (or match) then it is an original (or matching) car" group. Beyond that it gets down to the old "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" argument. I have an original drive train 69 Vette. I recently changed the air pump because the old one sounded like it was gargling marbles. I didn't check to see if it had date stamps that were correct for the car. Does that mean my car is somehow devalued and no longer an original? Consumable, non-VIN stamped, components should not be included in the assessment. Beyond that, if you bore and stroke your original 350 to a 383 but it still has a stock appearing exterior, it's still an original car IMHO. A lot of this is just people being either 1) dishonest (restamping a replacement engine and passing it off as original) or 2) **** retentive (concerned about the correct date stamps on the hose clamps).
