I am a novice when it comes to corvette specific service/maintance.
I have had my 74 for several years and have taken out rear suspension for rebuild (new bearings, strut rods & bushings, new SS parking break assem).
It has a mono composit leaf (I believe it has a label on it of 300 lbs)
I am wondering if that is to soft ...
#300 is the lightest of the composite springs (at least, that's my belief). Whether you should change or not, depends on how you use the car. If it has been "too soft" going over pavement bumps, train tracks, etc. you might want to go to 330#. The 360# and higher springs are really for race/track use and are pretty harsh for a daily driver. If you haven't felt it had too much movement over bumps, then leave it in there. New gas shock absorbers will make a heck of a difference using the same spring.
P.S. Don't forget to change out the U-joints on half-shafts AND driveshaft now that you have it dissassembled that far. Now is not the time to "penny-pinch". Buy solid U-joints (ones without the Zerk fitting...they're quite a bit stronger) and get best-quality ones the Auto parts store has; or buy some exact replacement joints from a Corvette aftermarket store (internet or catalog). Also install a new rear seal on the tranny output shaft and new French locks for the half-shaft bolts [see AIM for location if you didn't remove any on this teardown].
Thanks for the tips. It has always felt to soft to me but I will see what new shocks do for it befor I get new spring.
My plan is to replce shocks and u-joints also, Differentail is in being serviced now new seals and bearings, figured it is out mine as well service it.
I think I need to pull trans and get it serviced also I believe that the front seal is leaking also. However, I debating weather I should service it or service the 700r I aquired as an eventual replacement and install that. Budget will be the determining factor.
