I have this same lift at home. I like the 4 post because i can get the doors open with the car on it. i also like the way you can roll it around around with the wheels it has. Its handy

Sorry to post this thread and to have offended you. I have been on this forum 9 months, and I haven't seen a single post dedicated to all kinds of lifts. Yes, I know there is a thread going on about scissor lifts, but I have already mentioned before that I don't feel comfortable working around one. When I posted this thread, my goal was to see what my fellow C3 owners have, compare that to that ones I have seen, and then make a decision based off that.

I haven't made a decision, yet. However, it seems that Bendpak and Greg Smith are among the most popular on the forum. One question, why didn't you go with the overhead lift? Does your vette bottom out?

BTW- You've got the best looking '79, I've ever seen! I have seen it a million times on the forum, and everytime I envy you!

Do any of you have pictures of how your garage door tracks were modified? or how they are arranged to allow the door to move higher?

Thanks man, flattery will get you everywhere. What do you mean by overhead? I got mine with the floor bridge because it was the lowest overall height and I didn't want it too visible to the neighbors. Not recommended if you are going to roll a transmission jack under the car a lot. I didn't have the ceiling height in the garage, so I mounted it outside. The climate here in Central Cali. allows almost daily use, and I can pressure wash the underside of my vehicles. I love my Bendpak.

for spedaleden,

The maximum lift height of my lift is 7'2", in that pic I would guess the car is at about 6'. The maximum height is measured from the top of the ramp to the floor. I bought the ProPark8 mainly because it was recommended if you have an suv. My wife has a Acura RDX which I only put on the lift to change her oil. But it is nice to know that I could put either vet on top and park her SUV underneath. I don't have the lift bolted to the floor, but have it under consideration. I constantly check thss thing before lifting my cars, and always make sure the locks are engaged before I go under it.

The lift is one of the best things going for us guys/gals! But i have said this in two other posts. You really need to BOLT IT TO THE FLOOR!! . IF you really pay attention as it goes up and down in its travel youu might be suprised just how much it will shake and move. You don't want anything to happen for a simple bolt job to hold it steady!

You really want to make it the safest thing possible at all cost. Maybe someone out there can post this comment so all can see.

can't post a pic right now (coz I'm slakkin' here at work he~he) but I had installed what is called a "ceiling hugger" track, which is no more than an extra section of door track, somewhat angled backwards, and allows the door to move up closer into the ceiling area. I feel the installer might have gone one section more, because we had sloped the trusses in the lift bay to add extra height, and I have room.
both of the doors are 8' x 10', but the lift-bay door goes up into the ceiling like almost 12" more. (no electric opener,, which turns-out to be behind-sight, now that I find "jack-shaft" garage door openers available.)

A 2 post asymmetric also is designed to allow door access. The vehicle is not pulled as far forward into the lift as a regular 2 post. Here is one asymmetic lift:

I recently bought a used Rotary 9000lb like this from a Dodge dealership that was moving. It will be awhile until installation but it looks very well made and Rotary is used by many pros.

Here's my Pro Park 7 that I purchased from Greg Smith in Delaware. I got it in December for $1.645. I picked it up myself and saved the freight $. It's a lot of lift for the money. Comes with jack tray, drip trays and casters. The only additional purchase required was 3 gallons of hydraulic oil. My garage ceiling is 9' 2", high enough to park two C3's. After I raise the ceiling to 11' 6" it will be high enough to work on them standing up straight.

You answered my question. Is that the 12,000lb lift?

Sounds to me like you go lucky! I would rather have a Rotary because of their history of making good lifts. Their lifts even today look like the could support a house! The only problem that I have with Rotary is that they don't list their prices on their website. Nothing ticks me off more than not listing a price. I refuse to play their little game of having the salesman sweet talk me into buying their lift. The dodge dealership over here moved about 3 years ago, so no rotary for me .

I hope to find a lift that is of the same quality if not better. Right now, I am really interested in the BendPak XP-10AC and XP-10ACX.

No pictures but I can take them. I am on the road until Wednesday evening. I did it my self. A company had all the parts for a high lift conversion. I bought all the parts needed for about 300 bucks. Fairly easy install. I had to slightly modify the rails but the door now hugs the ceiling. I do not have an opener on it. The jack shaft opener was 300+ bucks and Ido not open it a lot so it was not needed right now.

I had bendpack deliver and install. Best $400 spent, and you get a better warranty.

Thanks - it would be great to see how you did it. I've got a 10' ceiling above mine, but the tracks curve horizontal just at the top of the door which looks to be about 8 feet. If I could get another 2 feet in height, I'm thinking I could open the door when a car was on the top lift.

I appreciate the effort. I looked over a few threads and I didn't find much of what I was after. I think that with this thread, more people have posted a variety of different companys and kinds of lifts. Also, we all love pictures which this thread has. I have also seen that others were able to benefit by asking questions and recieving answers. I truely do appreciate your effort.

I'll take some when I get home. I still have one side the original way which sounds like your situation. I'll take some shots of what it was and what it is now.
