I was going to do the same thing, but I was going to buy the tinted insert for the rear window. Can they do the rear window of an '81 with the tinted film?

I had an insert on my 78 and later sold it to a member on the forum. It works good except while driving at night.
Make sure that the tint shop that you go to does not talk you into using two pieces of film to cover the back window. I know folks who have done it with just one large piece. Looks much cleaner that way.

I've heard of people using two pieces and placing the cut on one of the rear defogger lines . I was asking since there is such a curve in the glass
AZ78Vette - do you have the rear window defroster wires on your SA? If so, curious how the tint worked over the wires - air bubbles etc.
Thanks
yes i do have the defroster. I dont have any bubbles around the wires but i do have a couple bubbles in the corner of the glass. This was probably due to the tight area the tint guy had to work in.

Why was it such a problem at night. I've seen the picture in the catalog and it dosen't look very dark. Or is there something else that was a problem?

It causes sort of a double reflection at night when you see light coming through. This is because the insert does not snug fit to the window. It is a 2-3 mm plexiglass sheet. Plexiglass is not as clear as real glass which makes it a little translucent. It's hard to clean because dust gets in between the glass and the insert.
The one I had was a brand called Gila. I am not sure how the other brands are.
I know a lot of folks who are happy with it. Just was not my taste.
