Default Trim ring depth for 7" rally wheels

I bought some trim rings for my '68. It has the original 7" rally wheels (came with wheel covers, they're nice, but wish to sport the look of the Vette up a bit). Vendor indicated the rings were for 15x7 wheels, but when I put ring onl, it looks too deep. I suspect the rings I received are for 8" rallys.
Does anyone know the what the true depth of a trim ring for a 7" rally wheel should be? The ones I received are 2 1/4".

Thanks!

I think you have the correct ones for your 7 inch rims. I went out to the garage and measured my rally rings on my 72 with 8 inchers. My trim rings are approximately 3 1/4 inches wide.

Just measured mine too. 3 1/4 also. sounds like you got the right ones.

'68s do not have unique trim rings- they're exactly the same as '69 and up.

There was a similar question on the NCRS forum a couple of weeks ago. There is no outward appearing differences between 68 & up trim rings. When mounted on the different sizes wheels, the 69 and up wheel has more of a reveal then the 68 wheel. That's about it.

A few months ago the NCRS Restorers magazine had a pretty extensive article about the trim rings. As I recall there were three types of trim rings sold for the 68 and up C3's. My recollection was that the 68 trim rings were not as deep as the 69 and up.

Thanks for the replies. More info. I measured the new rings to be
2 1/4" with ring sitting flat on it's back measuring straight up. If I measure the ring from bottom to top on the angle, it is approximately 3 1/4". Additionally, I remembered there was a ring on spare; it measures approximately 2 1/4" from bottom to top on the angle.

The 3 1/4" ring fits the 15", but it covers too much of the rally. The ring from my spare (2 1/4") looks better. So, based on the replies, it seems there is multiple opinions on this. I guess the only way to verify the correct ring for the 15x7 is to get the GM part # for the 68. How would I find this part #?

Also, when shopping for the correct ring, ring dimensions are not divulged, just that they fit 15X7 or 15X8. Would prefer to shop on e-Bay for this as the prices are much better, but may need to purchase from Corvette America, Paragon, or the like and call to verify the ring dimensions. This plan of attack will cost more $$.

I bought 8 inch rims for my 1968 in 1969 and used the same trim rings front and rear that came on the car. The 8`s leave a small gap at the inside of the rim. The 7`s in front fit clear to the rear as no gap is present. There is only one width for the Vettes. Passenger cars may have different sizes but I really dont know.

I don't believe the spare came with a trim ring and hub...you just used those parts from the "bad" wheel when you installed the spare. But, the trim ring on your spare could be one from an original set...which would make this discussion "very interesting" {to quote Artie Shaw}.

You sure the trim ring you have is not from a '67? Those are markedly different than for C3 cars due to the 6" wheel width.

It's true that there are variations in C3 trim rings but these are minor profile differences only, nothing as major as the width.
