I am re-building my L48 350 and was wondering If there is any good websites or books to buy to walk me throught a complete re-build. I did a search on the forum and didn't find what I was looking for.
Along with a factory chassis manual and overhaul manual (if your year had one) one of the best small block books is "How to Build the Small Block Chevrolet" by Larry Atherton & Larry Schrreib. You should also look for other publications that describe assembly tips or later improvements and techniques such as Hot Rod, Car Craft, Super Chevy, etc. Later issues of those magazines will show you some of todays aftermarket parts that will be ignored in off the shelf books simply because of when they were written. You can do searches on the magazine web sites for specific articles. That is generally where you will find for example how to convert from main bearing cap bolts to studs or how to file piston rings.
"How to Blueprint & Build a V8 Short Block For High Performance" is another good book that is not brand specific but gets down into the technical weeds on parts selection, assembly, and reliability. Also, the old "Chevy Power" books published by Chevrolet offer some good assembly tips.
There are a lot of books on the shelf, but most are very high level. They show you all kinds of stuff, but don't tell you HOW to do things. Take a good look inside before you buy.

The book you want is "How to rebuild your small block chevy" by David Vizard. The best book on the subject IMHO. I never do an overhaul without it. Very easy for a beginner to follow.

Gotta agree with Mark....It's the best book out there, and easily understandable for a beginner. (like myself!) I'm looking forward to tearing in to my 350 as well...Once I convince my wife to park her car outside for many months.
