Default Brokerage costs

I have bought a lot of parts over the last few years for my 69 vette resto... I learned the hard way too a few times... I never use Fed Ex or UPS... I have found that Corvette Central is good... they do "brokerage fees" up front and are very resonable...

If it's actually taxes being collected then our illustrious governments are the ones pocketing it. Duties are also collected by the government. It's the brokerage fees that couriers are collecting for themselves.

I send a lot of things to Canada because I'm involved in hockey memorabilia. The main problem is US Post is clearly the best option, but unfortunately if you send a box that is bigger in total inches than USPS allows, you HAVE to send it UPS.

I have Canadians that don't believe US Post will not ship a 36" table hockey game box. I'm not making it up.

I've ordered from Willcox quite a few times, got excellent service and they shipped my orders via USPS. So far this winter I ordered one of their carpet sets, before the sale, and a set of their leather seat covers for my vette. I order from them whenever possible. UPS, FedEx and Purolator are all price gougers. I ordered about $50 in small items and it was shipped UPS it cost me $50 in brokerage fees and taxes, the drive told me they have a minimum $35 brokerage fee.

Here are the brokerage fees. These do not include shipping, provincial sales tax (PST, 8% in Ontario), and goods and services tax (GST, 5%).

My only problem with Willcox is their drop shipping .They sell stuff cheaper then most .place the order with Corvette America for example ,Corvette America sends it out to me stating the cost they sell it for so I pay taxes on Corvette Americas price NOT the price I paid Willcox .
Recently I wanted a bumper cover from them ,they would not ship to Canada .the shipping costs to a N.Y. address I thought was kind of pricey ,so I checked around and got a bumper cover (better quality) from Ecklers 2 mufflers and a few other odds and sodds shipped to the same N.Y. address for less then the shipping of just the cover quoted to me by Willcox .Not to mention Ecklers had a 15% off sale going on.
The bad news is I meet the fellow with my parts at the Casino .Not a good thing to do .

SORRY my minimum U.P.S. fee has been $35.00 .more on larger items. I think Mr.Jarret must have a huge buy out in his contract.

I have dealt with Willcox quite a bit. Ask for Joe. He's a pretty good guy for getting things out the door. He will be up front with you about what is in stock and what is being drop shipped from another location. They send things via USPS unless you request ultra fast shipping. I have had to pay the tax at the post office but nothing other than that.

As for speed, there are faster distributors, but in the winter I have time.

Willcox is also very good to deal with in the event of problems with your shipment. I bought a water pump and it came without the top plug. Joe shipped one out to me immediately.

There was another situation where I received the wrong floor mats. I got the ones destined for someone in Manitoba. Joe called me and asked if I would forward them on via Canada Post and I was well compensated for my effort.

A great bunch to deal with
Bill

I bought a front bumper cover from WIllcox. The post office wouldnt carry it over the border so it was going to have to come UPS. The folks at Willcox tried several ways to keep the shipping down, but the sad reality was that to get it into Canada I was looking at about $200 in fees. In the end they shipped it USPS to Houlton, Maine and I went and picked it up myself, paid $28 in tax and brought it home.

I have the same with the above companies I call them the FEDUP mafia. The biggest problem is large boxes the post office in the US wont take them. But if they do come by post office the charges are only for the duty, that I am more than willing to pay. But the others charge more than the item costs in extortion money.

Don't get me wrong I,m really not complaing about Willcox .Their service is good .Here is a copy paste of a post I did a while ago in regards to shipping costs in general [I]I live an hours drive from the New York border .Why does Willcox (located in Indiana)charge $9.68 shipping to New York ,$22.04 to Ontario and Ecklers (located in Florida) $12.84 for the same part shipped to Ontario ,and I still have to pay taxes when I pick up the item .To save a buck or two on a part is foolish if I have to pay an additional $13.00 on shipping .It takes the same amount of time and effort for both companies to ship the same part .
Even if we could see FAIR shipping charges that would be a start.

U.P.S is a scam but somthing still is not right!!!!!!!

P.S. Any more on that run to Kingston we were talking about a while ago????

Several years ago we recognized the issues Canadians had with buying Corvette products from U.S. companies. We implemented a program that would allow us to ship quickly, cost effectively, and conveniently to our Canadian customers.

How our program works is pretty simple (for you!):

We have an arrangement with UPS to act as a non-resident importer in order to collect taxes when your order is processed as required by Canadian federal and provincial governments. We then remit all collected taxes to the appropriate government entities.

What does this mean for you? NO BROKERAGE FEES! FAST SHIPMENTS! NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES WHEN YOUR ITEMS ARRIVE!

When you place your order with us, we will let you know the total price for the order to be delivered to your door, including shipping charges and taxes. Since we coordinate the brokerage, there are no brokerage fees charged to you! Orders are shipped via UPS Canada Standard.

The exception to this program is the province of Prince Edward Island. Orders shipping to this province will be processed through a Canadian brokerage house as in the past.

We are proud to offer this service to our Canadian Customers.

Your friends at Corvette Central

The original prepaid shipping was $50, it gets to my door and I owe another $108 on $250 worth of stuff. They knocked it down to $68 once I had something to say about it but this is just a rip off. PLEASE guys don't send UPS when shipping out of the States. I had a clutch shipped here, the clutch was $225 and shipping was $50, my son tells me the UPS guy was here and I have to pay them another $89 to get my stuff. Is that extortion? This is ...I dont know what you would call it but they are gouging us hard and it's got to stop somewhere.
I've seen people bitch about this on the V-Rod forum and elsewhere.. I ship a lot, both domestically and internationally... The fault lies with Custom's in the destination country... I know people do not like to hear that and will argue it to no end, but ultimately the blame lies with the destination country and their customs office.

I've seen many countries customs offices that will actually take packages that are marked/labeled with electronic goods, open them up, and keep the items... Be lucky all you are doing is paying an extra fee.... Often times I've seen the fees, and then the items was taken away to never be seen or heard from again.

In each instance, I will say that UPS has come through refunding fees, and paying the insurance/replacement costs of said items...

That extra money you have to pay is going to your Government, not UPS!! PERIOD!!!! That is who is extorting you!

Sorry dude, but you're way off on this one. The fee that everyone is complaining about is the brokerage fees imposed by Fedex, UPS etc. Brokerage fee money stays in the pocket of the shipping company, not the goverment.

For comparison:

UPS $35.00 brokerage fee minimum, irrespective of the shipment value. No idea what the maximum is as I bet there is none.

Canada Post (handling a package sent via USPS) ZERO if the package is deemed to be of minimal data ~$40, or is a gift/sample. Or, a grand total of (hold on to your hats)$5.00 if the shipment is of higher value.

I don't think anybody would make this big a fuss over $5.00.

You should see what we here in EU have to pay for our parts...

Doesn't matter wether it is UPS, FED EX, TNT or whatever. You are scr*wed. Except there are not much alternatives for us here.

Ouch, anybody have any prep H? I just got my clutch and it was an extra $85. I know the guy and he said if it's antique parts then there's no taxes , ergo no brokerage fees. Right out of the guys mouth.

He lied. Probably because he doesn't know the rules and wanted to tell you what you wanted to hear.

The brokerage fees apply to all packages no matter their status of taxable/non taxable, used/new, gift, duty free, junk, empty box, etc, etc.
