The brokerage fees apply to all packages no matter their status of taxable/non taxable, used/new, gift, duty free, junk, empty box, etc, etc.

Brokerage fees are the fees that the carrier charges you for navigating the border and have nothing to do with the cash collected by Canadian Border Services (tax) in the form of sales tax or duty.

I have heard it said that taxes are not applicable on gifts under $40. and that there is no duty on goods manufactured in the US (thanks NAFTA).

So on a parcel shipped to us here in the frozen north from a supplier in the US, we should expect to pay the tax on the value of the goods and duty if those goods were manufactured elsewhere.

The border does not charge a brokerage fee. The carrier decides what this fee will be. I have never encountered a brokerage fee with the post office, but we all pay the tax brother.

For comparison:

UPS $35.00 brokerage fee minimum, irrespective of the shipment value. No idea what the maximum is as I bet there is none.

Canada Post (handling a package sent via USPS) ZERO if the package is deemed to be of minimal data ~$40, or is a gift/sample. Or, a grand total of (hold on to your hats)$5.00 if the shipment is of higher value.

I don't think anybody would make this big a fuss over $5.00.
Taxes (pst and gst) and brokerage are two different things .I occasionally get lucky and receive packages that have slipped under the radar and I don’t have to pay taxes on ,But as I say that is only luck .That NEVER happens with courier companies

How our program works is pretty simple (for you!):

We have an arrangement with UPS to act as a non-resident importer in order to collect taxes when your order is processed as required by Canadian federal and provincial governments. We then remit all collected taxes to the appropriate government entities.

What does this mean for you? NO BROKERAGE FEES! FAST SHIPMENTS! NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES WHEN YOUR ITEMS ARRIVE!

When you place your order with us, we will let you know the total price for the order to be delivered to your door, including shipping charges and taxes. Since we coordinate the brokerage, there are no brokerage fees charged to you! Orders are shipped via UPS Canada Standard.

The exception to this program is the province of Prince Edward Island. Orders shipping to this province will be processed through a Canadian brokerage house as in the past.

We are proud to offer this service to our Canadian Customers.
