I guess it comes down to the extra expense in doing the jams, etc... That and the loss of values vs keeping it stock.

My experience has been that the only people who nitpick about a C3's original color are going to be the 68-73 buyers.

I wouldnt have bought mine if it had been original color(buckskin) I like red or black in a c3

If you got it to drive make it like YOU want it the heck with everyone else

White with red interior is "classic color set" for a C1 [and maybe a C2], but I don't think that holds any water with a later C3. Do it your way.

If that is what is important to you, then go for it. I don't think it will ever decrease the value enough that you will regret that you did it. Make it yours.

My 1980 was originally red with a black interior. Nice, but nothing special. I changed the color to a slightly different shade of red and the interior to a different shade of black. I think it looks better, but some like to keep them stock... Besides, you can always paint it the original color if you don't like the new color.

I also have a 1980 (in silver) I am going to repaint it a nicer silver, two part. I dont think that anyone will ever be all that nit picky over a 1980 not being an origional color. Have fun with it, and make it yours

It's your car, paint it black if thats the color you want. If you post a picture, someone will photo shop the color to black for you. At least you'll get to see what it looks like before painting it.

I agree with the others. Paint it the way you want it. Look at it this way, if you were shopping for a C3 and came across a 1980 that had a good black paint job, would you be worried if it wasn't the correct color? The only time this will really matter is if someone is looking for an original type car that has some interesting production value.
It sounds like you will enjoy driving and caring for the vette more if it's black so go for it.

Life is funny...
I just changed my '80 from dark metallic green with the doeskin interior to white with the red interior! I guess it's what you're happy with. It's kind of like I bought a new car!

Default 1980 Vette paint

Black is a very good color but if not done properly it is also very noticeable in imperfections.I recently painted my 80 coupe from frost beige to velocity yellow!

I just repainted my 74 torch red. It had been many different colors in the last 34 years I was surprised to find the original color was pooh brown. Now I see why it has been painted a few times. Thought about going back to the original color because there is not alot of them around but then I remimbered why there wasnt alot of them around. Do what make you happy.

Before

After

Remember if the car ever goes crazy in value. Repaint it the original color. (It would pay for itself to do it) Most of all the bid dollar cars at BJ have been repainted (original color)

I don't believe the above will happen in my time, so I'm enjoying it the way I would of bought it.
