Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. 
You could just put one of those "green" cut-off switches right on the battery terminal and put a switched ground wire on the coil (that wouldn't be seen under the shielding) with a small hidden switch in an inconspicuous place.
BTW, Daisy Duke still don't look too bad and none of us are looking any younger.
