thanks d-boy. yeah i've seen 'em there too but i would prefer it somewhat hidden for a couple of reasons.... i think it's obviously better, as you said, for theft protection. and also i do want the car to remain it's stock appearance.
of course, it'd ALSO be great if it was all that, AND it was relatively easy to get to. in case of fire, for one, and also, i really don't want to have to go under the hood everytime i park the car! plus - if a potential thief sees me park the car and then go into the hood they will know (BINGO!) where to look...
would that be electrically conceivable? i mean, wiring wise?
Why not? You are basically putting the keyed switch inline with the car's 12V power wire right? Just run it into the switch, and then another cable from the switch to the battery terminal.
Or were you going to cut off the ground instead of power?
i can't help you with which one to get, but if your're purchasing a cut-off for theft security, wouldn't you want the switch to be smaller? And the key won't help much, all they have to do is cut the wires off the back and twist them together . I can't tell you how great it works becuase i have not installed mine yet, but i purchased the painless mechanical latching cut-off from summit. I went with it becuase it comes with a super teeny tiny button switch that would be easy to hide and easy to switch on and off. I'm thinking somewhere between the seat and the console or underneath the dash is where i will put mine. Anyways, not trying to be negative, just throwing my two cents out there.
What about maybe mounting it IN the passenger side compartment, or even in the middle one if you don't already have it stuffed with stuff.
I welded up a bracket to mount mine in the box with the battery. If you don't know it's there, you'll never see it without a flashlight and a strong neck.

you're .02 is really helpfull. that's a good point... do you mean this thing?
I think those are the same units in both links. But that is exactly what i have. It's a very nice set-up, the components seem high quality and durable to me. I just need to get it installed and see how great it works, although i'm sure i wont have any problems. It comes with good instructions too. Now that i think about it, probably the best thing about it is that you could hide it very well in the storage compartment just underneath the backside of the console tunnel. Then run the switch wherever you want. This would make it a lot harder to find it and steal the car.
