need help with sealer....
I am in the process of prepping 1977 for paint. While cleaning out the jambs I've run across some old dried out caulk which I scraped out and a little bit of surface rust.
1.) Suggest how to prep the surface rust. Rust convertor and sand?
2.) What product to reseal the gaps. I'm thinking Evercoat epoxy seam sealer?
3.) When I paint these jambs I plan on using an epoxy sealer. Since I'm going black on the exterior can I use black epoxy and be done with it or would that look cheap?
I'm going to try to attach some pics

I am not a fan of rust converters, but I use it in places where I cant get the metal sanded all the way down to shiny metal and reprime.
Many different types of seam sealers, I like the 3M brushable seam sealer personally.
What kind of paint do you plan on using? 2 stage basecoat clearcoat? With most paints now you dont have to spray the clear on the jams and all, you treat that differently. Need to know what type paint before I go slinging advice in this area but I would definitely paint the jams if it were me so they would match, then mask off when you do the rest of the body. As much detail work as your photos show, you should have one good looking job when your done. Most beautiful paint jobs are in the prep before the paint ever hits the car. Just my .02
