My '77 driver side power window does not work. The window still provides resistance and will stay up on its own, however it can be pushed down and pulled up with a light amount of force. When the window switch is activated, the motor can be heard running. The ease of movement makes me think that the window is still running on its tracks and the fact that it is staying up leads me to believe that the regulator is still functioning. Are these correct assumptions? I think either the gear box is stripped, the motor isnt engaging the gearbox or the motor doesn't have enough umph to raise the window. What do you guys think?
The gear on the window regulator, or the gear in the window motor is stripped. You will have to remove the window motor to inspect the regulator. It's a time consuming process so be patient.
