dash cover kits
Does anyone know about dash cover kits. I'm looking into purchasing an 82 vette, but the intierior is a mess. I called a local vette place and they said instead of replacing the entire interior, i could cover the dash...i just don't want it to look tacky...any one hear about stuff like that.
thanks

The first time I did it was back in 99 or 2000 and liked it so much that when I bought the 80 last year it was one of the first things I ordered when redoing the interior. It's a lot easier to install than a whole new dash, you do need to shave down the glove compartment door a little though so it closes right. Other than that, just make sure you let it sit out in the sun for a little while on a hot day (makes it softer and easier to install) before you start.

Most cheap fixes look that way.
I'd grab a nice used dash from a swap meet (they are out there and sellers hate to carry them home) for a much better price than a new piece.
If the price is a little high on a repair part, wait instead of the shortcut.

The problem is: can you find a nice NOS dash for cheap? When I go to restore my car, I want the interior to look brand new. I don't have a problem with repro dashes as long as the fit and look exactly like the original piece. However, some have said the fit poorly while others have said that they got it to look perfect through countless hours of massaging. Do you take a risk a buy a repro massage it and hope it fits (even though it might not ever fit well) or do you buy a dash cover to cover your aged dash? I would really like to go the repo route as long as there is quality in the product.
