Default 1981 Power Antenna

Has anyone replaced their power antenna with one from one of the popular vendors (Ecklers, Corvette Central, etc..)?

Any suggestions? How difficult was the replacement?

Tony

Is yours beyond repair? Whats wrong with it? Mine wouldnt work at all. I was about to throw it in the trash and order a new one, instead I tore it apart, cleaned it up and replaced the cable and it works like new. Saved me a hundred and fifty bucks or more....

I agree with L82 Shark. I unmounted my antenna unit, disassembled it, replaced the plastic guide cable, lubricated the antenna and gears, put everything back together, and remounted the unit. Works like new!
The AIM has great illustrations and text describing the antenna unit. Unmounting and remounting was a bear because of the tight fit, but I just took my time (ok, a lot of time). If I ever have to do this again, I won't hesitate. Try it...

Not sure what happened, but the motor broke off somewhere. I do need a new one. I believe this one is beyond repair, unless you can buy just the motor?

Default Ecklers

I bought my replacement from ecklers; pretty easy to swap out.

Bought mine at TLD after the cable replacement part wouldn't fix the original. Easy to replace even though I couldn't get my LR muffler out of the way.

exactly what mine was doing. take it apart and if its the cable you can order a new one from several different places. I bought mine from the parts tab on this forum. It was an AC Delco replacement part.

The plastic mast cable may be broken. I replaced mine with a mast repair kit from Corvette America, $26.00

I ordered the new power antenna and installation kit from Zip, but there were no screws, bolts whatever needed to actually bolt the bracket to the inner fender. Anyone have what size screw attached the brancket to the fender? All my books show 2 screws, but no size.

Thanks
Tony

I repaired mine. It was a broken cable and I repaired the cable.
