A factory copy of the Assembly Instruction Manual for starters and copy of the GM Chassis Service Manual and Overhaul manuals.
Try the www.ncrs.org bookstore for the AIM and the manuals. If they don't have any service manuals try Ebay for used factory manuals.

i have the factory assembly manual, which has proved helpfull. Also the haynes manual, even tho some people dont like it, it does have some helpfull stuff in it. Although to me this forum has been more helpfull than any manuals.

Agree that an AIM (my Mid-America copies are fine) and factory service manuals are essential, but to my pleasant surprise I've found the Corvette Shop Manual, 1966-1982, from Motorbooks to be quite good for a multi-year. However, IMHO it is an exception to the rule against that type.
