Default Oil Pump Problem? Please Help!

Bummer, I was just about to install my one piece oil pan gasket when I noticed that there was a crack in the plastic piece on the oil pump drive shaft. Should I fix this? Is it important, what is its function? Please help?

It ensures alignment of the shaft with the pump. I would replace with an aftermarket unit using a steel sleeve, they are inexpensive insurance.

I'm sure "Bubba" could come up with 20 "fixes" for that....[hose clamp, duct tape, etc. etc.]. But it would be best to replace it. Check to see if your local parts store has one. Hopefully, it will be readily available and you won't have to order by catalog. A last resort repair (but much more viable than Bubba would attempt) would be to apply a 1/8" thick band of JB Weld putty-type epoxy around the sleeve to reinforce it.

Napa should have it. Here is their part number.

In a pinch, you can also use a "sweat coupling" for 3/8" copper pipe, not tubing, but pipe. It has worked for me over 100,000 miles.
