1974 center grill

Just curious

The 74 center grill is so expensive now and no reproductions, I had heard there was someone making a plastic grill but not anymore. Question is has anyone modified another type of center grill that came out good from another year ?

I'd love to find an alternative to paying $300 for one too. Want one, but too many other higher priorities. Plus just doesn't pass the value added for cost test!!

Just last week a plastic one brought almost 100.00 on ebay. Kinda rediculious for 25 cent piece of plastic. I will stumble on one sooner or later.

There (in theory) are no plastic center grills for 73 or 74, only the original die cast metal grills. No one is making repros which is why the price is high. I stumbled on a source a few years ago that had qty. 5 '73 grill @$180 each. Wish I had bought all of them.

Now I'm curious, one poster said no repros, no plastic ones. This poster showed the ebay link, one question for the seller was "did you know this is 68-69. Another poster in this thread said "is there anything else that works".

Does anyone know for sure if the plastic 68-69 center grill will work and/or look any good on a '73-74?

PS: Funny that someone paid $62 for a new 68-69 center grill that retails for about $40.

I think the grill in the pic is for an earlier model (72 maybe?).

The 73/74 one is certainly expesive. I got one that I'm very happy with, and got a very good deal, but it was still a rediculous amount of money.

No, the size is slightly different and the places where it bolts on are different. Not sure if it could be modded.

The grilles changed in 75 so I can't see a grille that was for a later model working on our 73-74 Vettes. Not enough customers for the after market guys to care about.

Thats a '68 - '69... Trust me... You'll eventually find someone that doesn't know what they are selling and you might even be able to steal... Just keep your eye open at ALL times!!

Thats the way ebay works, i saw a plastic horn cover for a motorcycle on ebay, did a search and found they were coming from a place about 4 hours from me. They sell for 8 bucks. They been selling on ebay for 20-25 bucks, guy sells 2 a week for over 5 years now!!!!!!! I would not be surprised to see the 68-69 center grill doing the same thing. Throw in the fact you could order the grill from your corvette parts supplyier and have it shipped directly to the ebay purcherser, never even have to touch the grill just sit back and collect money...........
