Default 1969 Corvette Question

Hey guys, I'm looking at a 1969 Coupe with a 4-speed and what he says is a 350ci / 350hp engine. He gets this information from the plaque on the console. He gave me the VIN, block, and what he called the transmission numbers, and what I'm seeing makes me think that this is actually a 350ci / 300hp car. The numbers are as follows:

VIN# 194379S705788
Block# 195705788
Trans# V1022HY

Now, from the brief research I've done, I'm thinking that what he calls the "trans#", is actually the last digits of the engine#. This would lead me to believe that the "HY" at the end means 300hp. This is a two owner car and this owner bought it in 1972. My theory is that the original owner switched out the plaque and this guy doesn't know that.

Maybe I'm way off base, but I hope you all can shed a bit of light on this mystery. Maybe it's not uncommon to have mismatched plaques. I've seen people put Z06 badges on C5 coupes for whatever reason. Thanks in advance for any help!

The HY on the end of the engine number would for sure mean it is a 350/300HP with a 3speed or 4 speed manual

The block should be a 3932386 for an early 69 like this one your looking at. It would be located at the back of the engine behind the drivers side cyl. head as I recall.

It's pretty common for console plates to be changed.

The block number you show should also be on the transmission

You are correct on his "Trans stamp"..HY being 350/300....that is the vin derivative for the engine block...a typical trans code might be "69K018"(model year),K being for small blocks...an example of the 4 speed tranny code would look like this: "P9M24A"...this indicates a M20 wide ratio Muncie assembled Aug 24,1969..."P" was used for all Muncie tranny's..

350 engine castings for 69:
3932386..very early 350
3932388..possible 350 usage..
3956618..mid-year 350
3970010..late 350

Hope this helps..I referenced Richard Prince Restoration Guide.

Not uncommon, plaques are cheap. He was close in that the engine code usually denotes transmission (MT or AT).

My 69 Muncie has the same number as the block stamped on it. In your case it would be 195705788
