Whats the diffrence between 68 Steering Columns and 69-75??? I know the key is not in the column in the 68 but is the shaft diffrent??? can you put a 68 column into a later year????

The 68 was avail with tele only. 69 and up also had tilt. They will interchange, but the dash has to come out and the support on the firewall has to be changed. The diameter is also smaller on the '68 shaft so that years interior must be used. Better to go from 68 to 69-up and get tilt than the other way round. /:\

The 1969 column is a lot more rigid in the bending mode than the first generation (67-68) column. You may note that the 67-68 column has a big mounting bracket with three or four aluminum mounting capsules that bolt up into the instrument panel. That is to help stiffen the column and keep it from bouncing up and down in your hands as you drive down the road. The 1969 (and later) columns are much stiffer and only require a relatively small two capsule mounting bracket.
