If I had to guess, I'd say this is an importer. Personally, when I go to buy my lift in a few years, it will be an American-made product from an American company only. I want no reservations when I'm standing underneath a 3 or 4 thousand pound vehicle.

never heard of American Automotive, though I also had never heard of the company right next door in Louisville which manufactures lifts either, until after I had purchased my Greg Smith unit.
hunt4, their ad is scetchy. when i was researching, everything I read says a floor-span model (low ceiling unit, no overhead bar) could NOT be used as both a symmetrical and an asymmetrical unit; this ad states otherwise.
for me, I would have to have some personal testimony from one of those 20,000 satisfied users before making any decisions, or they would have to provide some detailed drawings and information. (such as Greg Smith provides on their website)

Spend the extra bucks and get a Rotary Brand lift , made in Madison Indiana. These are commercial quality lifts. Your life is worth the $1500 extra!!! There should be a distributor in your area that will install and service your lift.
I have used many different brands. Hands down I would only by a Forward hoist. Rotary may have the name but they aren't half the hoist. http://www.forwardmfg.com/
I have been quite pleased with my 2 post from Greg Smith. I went and talked to them a few times before purchasing. The yanswered all my questions and then some. I did not have the room for an overhead but I am fabbing up a brace just for my peace of mind to connect the upper two columns. Probably overkill since it is rated for 8000 lbs and I'll never have more than 3500 on it. I have had a forums members C3 hanging above mine for 2 weeks now. I sleep fine with this setup.

Nice setup.... .....but I hope those front brake lines don't let go
I don't have a lift. But I WISH I did. I have some made in the far east jack stands that I really don't trust. I don't think I could work under my car when it's up on the lift I bought because of it's low price.
