So I got home last night and Uncle Sam had left me my tax return. I'm going to order one of those Dewitts Direct Fit radiators for my 77. Heard good things about them in the past and on this forum. My question is: with the improved cooling I will get with this radiator over the stock one, should I change to a different thermastat? I believe I installed 160 degree thermastat when I built the engine, trying to keep my engine cool during these hot Alabama summers. The engine is mildly custom.
The thermostat is to get the engine up to temp. as soon as possible & regulates the min. temp. Some bubba actually posted on the forum it was to run the heater! If it runs 220 w/ a 180 it will run 220 w/ a 160.
Min. temp should be 180 so a 180 thermostat should work well for you. http://performanceunlimited.com/illu...ermostats.html
About a year ago, I had a DeWitts installed in my '75, and I love it. I'm running a 180* T-Stat and it works perfectly... I do know my engine runs a lot better when it gets to temperature as opposed to it running cooler.

Good Luck!
Thats a great looking engine compartment ya got there, nice work. I like that top hose you have where'd ya get that? Did you have to get a new radiator cap to go with that new radiator or did the stock one work fine?

Thanks for the compliment! I got the upper radiator hose (along with the cap) at Summit Racing
