Default Gas caps shared?

Are the gas caps in our Vettes shared with other models? I am looking for anon keyed, vented gas cap, that has the spring loaded door so you can slip the tip of the fuel nozzle in without removing the gas cap.

I have found some that say they fit a Corvette but they are sealed and I need vented.

I wonder, if I buy a sealed one, can I somehow vent it myself?

I have not seen those for early caps (68-74). I am not sure I would want one on a Vette anyway due to the possibility of rain water coming in. On most GM cars the face would be vertical and shed water, on a Vette it is horizontal and might let water into the tank.

My Vette doesn't see rain any more, and my lid is going to seal very well against the mounting ring.

With the price of gas, I would be looking at a locking cap. Never know someone could throw some jelly beans in your tank.

When I did away with the vapor can, I removed the entire system and capped the line to the rollover valve, that created a non vented system so I had to use a vented cap. All I did was drill a hole in my non-vented cap. Doesn't take much to vent. All the vent is for is to prevent building up a vacuum in the tank. I agree with the locking cap sentiment though, there are a lot of jealous people out there that have nothing better to do that mess up your stuff.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, doesn't say if it is vented or not..

Yeah that's what I was looking at, and a few I found on Ebay, but I wasn't sure if I could get it and vent it myself. I suppose I could try to drill my own if it's sealed.

How large a drill bit should I use? I would want to keep it small.

I'm not sure on the drill size, but probably the smallest you could get, the gas cap on my '68 is vented and the hole is about the size of a toothpick if not smaller..

So I would just drill a plain ol hole from bottom through the top? Good to know.
