Just got off the phone with Bowtie Overdrive (WOW) No discount for forum members, $995.00 Tranny $195 cross0ver $175.00 Converter
All the wiring Shipping and handleing $200.00. Making the Total $2004.00 For An Overdrive Tranny . Well Im re-building my 400 and getting some new tires and new mufflers. Ill still have over $500.00 to spend on Gas that should last me 2 Years. What do you guys think?
I think you have another option. Buy a used TH200R4, rebuild it yourself for a few hundred in good parts, buy the wiring kit from Bowtie, and call it good.
All I can say is I rebuilt my th350 and really wish I had gone with a 200R4. My 80 was on jacks for about 4 years while I restored it. The Mechanicals are all done. Things I'm disappointed with. Ride - bought the Zip full suspension upgrade. I think its the heavier springs with stock shocks they sell. Handling. not sure if it's my steering box or still a result of the weak shocks. After driving a S-type Jag with a 6 speed that 3 speed needs another gear so bad I can't stand it. I will be upgrading to a 200R4 as soon as I can afford both the time and money.

If you don't put a lot of miles on the car, do little highway driving, and don't mind the extra stops at the gas pump, stick with the TH-M400. It is a 'healthy' tranny and it should last another 30 years if you do a proper rebuild.
Just curious, why the 200 over the 700 R4? Is it an easier swap? The 700 R4 I had swapped into my 80 came out of a 91 vette so I needed a different driveshaft, but with a shift kit and that overdrive gear it hauls *** and saves gas.

That's the down side of the 700; having to change the driveshaft. You don't with the 200.
700 gives you a slightly better first gear though.
Lon Wayne: How you get $2004?
I'm thinking to swap my 72 TH400 to 200R4 and calculation is:
Level 2 Transmissions $1195.00
2400 Stall High Performance $ 269.00
Shifter kit $ 90.00
TV Cable $ 40.00
Complete Brake Switch Circuit $ 95.00
Yoke With Straps $ 78.00
Shipping $ 200.00
TOTAL ~ $2000 But with Level 2 & 2400 converter.
Am I missing something? Can I use the original crossmember & driveshaft?

Gas isn't getting any cheaper. You'll kick a$$ with your steeper 1st gear. You'll actually enjoy going out onto the highway.
Spend the extra $ and get an OD tranny
I replaced my TH400 because the casting was so bad I could never stop the oil pan leaks.
Plus I got the best mod I could have done with the 3.55 grear. Whent from 12mpg to 18mpg with the AC running, over 20 without the AC. Plus the 1000rpms lower on the highway makes it a lot less road noise and easier on the motor. 200-4R install
