well i started to tear apart my interior of my 73. i am turning it from saddle to black. well i started with the rear interior, taking off the quarter panels and removing the rear carpet and compartment doors. well. next came the seats and carpet door sills, and then onto the shift console. so far i have found three mice nest and one squirrel nest up under the dash, with a whole store of nuts. all of the vacume lines are chewed up for the air and defrost. no wonder it did not work. and to think i was driving this car in this shape. i started to wear a gun because i don't know what i am going to come across next!!
Just buy some replacement vacuum lines (several places have complete line kits, complete with the correct color stripes, etc.), install; then, collect up all the un-used nuts and eat them with your next beer.
I've stripped my interior this year too and have begun the re-install process with refurbished and new parts. It's actually been a great stress reliever project for the winter. Just be careful because the OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) can kick in while you are trying to get things clean and in better shape than GM ever had it.
do yourself a favor, put in the foil backed insulation, not the hardware store type with the bubble wrap core but the quality stuff you can get online. just google it, they sell it in rolls. best thing i ever did
