I've had both a '72 LT-1 and a '72 LS5...both unrestored 30,000 mile cars. I loved them both! The LT-1 had 4.11's and wound out pretty quickly with them. The motor sounded super sweet as the revs picked up and it always turned heads. The LS5 had lots of torque and was great off the line. I drove that car home 13 hours straight from Indy to Toronto with nothing more than stops for gas and I got tons of thumbs ups!!! I will admit that I prefer the hood stripes on the LT-1 though. I'm looking for one of each currently, so if anyone knows of a nice car, please PM me
Are you kidding? Drive a BB and you'll never go back
Going to see a '72 LS5 this Sunday. It is supposed to be a mostly original car, except for the carb....it has a holly. I will report back after i see the car and let you know my opinion on the LS5 vs. the LT-1.
I finally drove an LS5 for the first time on Sunday. Now that I have driven both ('71 LT-1, '72 LS5) I felt I should come back and cast a vote in my own poll. My opinion....well, the 454 was very cool but I think Midyrman said it best..
With all due respect to the LS series of 454s, if you want a car that tugs at every emotion and sensation of driving a factory production "race car", then the LT-1 is your car.
I had not seen or heard a '72 LT1 compared to my '72 LS5 until a recent NCRS Convention.
The LT1 was a very nice car but in the engine department the rumble was not the same.
There is no way I would trade my BB.
